In school, he formed and was a part of numerous jazz ensembles. One of those groups was Alvin Batiste and the Jazzstranauts. This afforded him the opportunity to come to the attention of jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis. With the recommendation of Batiste, Roderick was invited to sing with Marsalis anytime. This led him to land a featured spot in the Ellis Marsalis Quartet.
While under the experienced hand of Marsalis, Roderick was provided with opportunities to perform with the likes of John Hendricks, Betty Carter, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton, Branford, Delfeayo and Jason Marsalis, Joe Sample, Danny Barker, Kent Jordan, Mark Whitfield, Joe Lavano, Bobby Watson, Marcus Roberts, Cyrus Chestnut, Nicholas Payton, Wessel Anderson, James Carter, The Harper Brothers, Brian Blade, Terence Blanchard, the legendary Max Roach and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra among others.

This visionary musician hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan were he began playing the trumpet at age nine. Throughout his career Jesse’s trumpet has graced stages across the globe performing musical genres from classical, pop, funk, R&B to jazz. With an extensive background in Gospel music and Jazz, afforded Jesse the privilege of performing, touring and/or recording with many world renowned bands, including, Wynton Marsalis, Tower of Power, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Arturo Sandoval, Pat Boone, James Brown, Andrae Crouch, Billy Preston, Sam (Soul Man) Moore, Sister Sledge, The Winans and many others.
He has performed for three U.S. Presidents. His stellar performances of our National Anthem has garnered him even more prestige among the entertainment industry. As a result, many professional sports clubs demand his presence for the opening of their sporting events. Over five and a half million people per year are witness to his amazing rendition of the National Anthem.
From his humble beginnings as a nine year old nervously playing his first trumpet solo in church, Jesse overcame the reading disorder "Dyslexia" to attain the position of "Lead trumpet" in the world's most prestigious Jazz big band, "The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra" in New York City. Multi Grammy winner, and Pulitzer Prize winner Wynton Marsalis, was the conductor, and Artistic Director. Jesse received international acclaim for his lead trumpet, and solo performances during his two-year tour with LCJO.
He has authored, and self-published several books, including an autobiography, two trumpeter's guides, and two fiction novels, several self-help Christian books, and a book of Inspirational poetry. Dr. McGuire's recent book entitled, "The SISSI Principles" (Sales, Investments, Salaries, Services, & Inheritances) is shaking up both the religious and business community, receiving both critical acclaim and scathing criticism for his insightful, but highly controversial look into exactly how personal wealth is amassed in both the sacred and secular world. Dr. McGuire’s latest literary accomplishment, “Raising Doctors on a Patient’s Salary,” is Dr. McGuire’s best literary work, to date. He is also an Emmy Award recipient for his advocacy of Dyslexia with the Arizona Literacy and Learning Center. He embodies music, the spirit and love of the arts!
